Atlantis Weyr was founded on an atoll in the Western Islands, to relieve crowding in the other weyrs. A sudden
population burst in both the Northern and Southern weyrs 15 turns before the 9th Pass filled them to capacity. What
seemed a great start to the 'restocking' of the weyrs to fight thread was soon discovered to be a mixed blessing.
As they became full, the queens' clutches became smaller and smaller, falling from an average of 35 to around five to
eight each clutch, just two years before thread was to begin its Fall.
The original population explosion was enough to have plenty of riders for the first years of the Pass, however those
dragons would be nearing fifteen turns by the time the first Thread fell. To make things worse, many of the Holders and
Weyr leaders felt sure that Thread would not return.
At a meeting of the weyrleaders, the Southern Weyrleaders suggested a plan to help relieve the overcrowding in the North.
Some saw this as a method for getting rid of their troublemakers, others held hope that it would lead to another increase
in the number of eggs being laid by each queen. Three islands in the South were selected, and development began to make
the natural caves habitable for their new dragon and human populations. The junior Weyrwomen were asked for three
volunteers to found the new Weyrs, and all of the Weyrs agreed that the next three gold eggs would also be sent
away.
Shortly after the meeting, High Reaches' senior queen clutched, and among her eggs lay a shiny gold one. The
decision had to be made whether to wait until the completion of the new gold pair's Weyrling training before transferring, or to do
so immediately. A conclave of the senior golds and their riders decided that the gold egg should be transported
immediately to Atlantis, one of the three selected sites, as two and a quarter years was too long to wait to relieve
the overcrowding that was now beginning to tax the herdbeast supplies. They also reccommended that the rest of the clutch be moved with her. High Reaches' senion pair finally
agreed to this, but said that not only would she personally transport the eggs, she would also remain with them
until they hatched.
As for the junior Weyrwomen, only one had volunteered to transfer - no one wanted to be a leader of a so-called 'Outcast
Weyr'. As soon as news about the eggs was given, Kylla and her gold Shaernth were asked to assume the position of
Senior Weyrwoman at Atlantis Weyr as soon as possible. It was determined that the next two junior queens to rise
would transfer with their egg-laden queens to fill the other two openings. As well, the other Weyrs would send
riders to help set up the three new locations.
We are set now after the opening of Atlantis Weyr, awaiting the opening of the associated Atlantis Hold. Tiernath's clutch has
hatched, providing us with a new set of Weyrlings, and Shaernth's recent flight has sparked another round of anticipation among the Candidates.
We are still looking for applications for Candidates, riders, Candidate and Weyrling Staff,
Searchriders, Lord and Lady Holder, and many other positions! Send in your new sheets today, or adopt one of our current characters!
Welcome to Atlantis Weyr!
